State grants worth looking for

Every state runs its own programs, and they change with each legislative session. These are the kinds that most often fit school operations tools, and where to look for yours.

This guide is general information, last reviewed October 2026, not legal or grant advice. Your state education agency and your district’s federal programs director decide what’s allowable, and rules vary by state. We’re a software company, and we sell the apps this guide mentions.

Kinds of state programs

Teacher recruitment, retention and grow-your-own

Many states fund educator pipeline, mentoring and grow-your-own programs to fill hard-to-staff positions. Recruiting, onboarding and mentoring tools (Weaverbird HR) can support them, depending on each grant’s rules.

Substitute teacher pipelines

Some states have funded efforts to recruit and train substitutes or support districts facing shortages. Substitute recruiting and scheduling (Weaverbird Subs) can be part of those plans.

School safety and facilities

School safety and facility grants sometimes cover maintenance planning, building access and emergency readiness. Work-order, key and facility tracking (Weaverbird Facilities) may support them.

Technology and cybersecurity

State technology or cybersecurity grants may cover device management and IT support (Weaverbird Help Desk).

How to find yours

  1. Check your state education agency’s grants page and its federal programs or grants management office.
  2. Ask your regional education service agency (ESC, BOCES, ESD, IU or similar); they often track state grants and run purchasing cooperatives.
  3. Watch your state’s legislative session for new one-time grants, which often open with short deadlines.

Or tell us your state in the funding plan form, and we’ll send what we find.
